Fix your dry, or damaged hair fast and at home…

I’m no stranger when it comes to coloring my hair. I have always liked highlights in summer and warmer tones in winter– but never liked the damage it caused! Over years of trial and error, visits with my hair dresser and trying out products, I’ve come up with ways to help you keep your luscious hair looking strong, shiny, and long (no breaking or spilt ends!). Keep reading for how to repair damaged hair fast at home and keep it looking good.

Invest in good products, but don’t splurge on what you don’t need

Let me explain. What washes out quickly is less important than what is meant to stay in longer, or treat. This means, you may buy cheaper or more affordable shampoos and conditioners as long as they’re non-damaging but spend on the leave-in conditioners, oils, and sprays that will sit in your hair for days and treat your frizzy, damaged or colored hair. Here are some amazing shampoo and conditioners.

Less is more

When it comes to salon-grade products there is no need to use a palm-size amount of product. You will notice high quality product is much thicker and concentrated, so a little goes a long way. If your hair is color treated or damaged, it may likely be porous and a bit less silky to the touch. In those instances, apply more product (such as leave-in oil or conditioner) gradually until you feel the strands of hair become saturated with the product– this finessing, if you will, is really the key to a silky, shiny blow-out— so don’t skip this or rush this step. ๐Ÿ™‚

This mask technique is your BFF

For way too long I listened to the directions on the back of the conditioners. What I did not do until recently, which was a total game-changer, was leave in the conditioner masks for HOURS if not even overnight. At first I was concerned by hair would be slimy or just uncomfortable feeling with thick condition mask in my hair– I was wrong. Damaged hair is often so porous that it absorbs all or most of the product. In fact, once you go to wash out the hair conditioner, notice how there isn’t much product pouring down the drain. So, you are really saving your money by getting more out of the products! These are some hair mask conditioners that work really well.

In a hurry? Try these masks

If you don’t have time to spend soaking in a mask and need to rinse, blow dry and run out the door– I feel you! Try these products which will leave your hair fortified with nutrients, conditioned and silky to the touch. Best of all, you don’t need to leave it in for too long.

Top it off

Ok so now you have washed and thoroughly conditioned your hair, and feel that it’s healthy and shiny– yay! Don’t forget to add oil for extra shin and leave-in conditioner once your hair is towel-dried. I find this adds an extra layer of protection and manageability. If you’re like me and like waves, or beachy curls, make sure to spritz on some heat protectant spray before curling your hair. Check these out.

Be dirty

How long can you go before your hair feels super dirty or greasy? I last about a week, but the longer the better. The longer you go between washes the more your hairs natural oils get to condition and strengthen your hair. To keep your hair looking fresh, add dry shampoo to the roots. I really like this one here, and comes in the shade of your hair color.
